Commentary: Process Innovation (HBS MBA Curiosity and Growth Essay)

Process innovation is the toughest to explain in a 250-word curiosity and growth Harvard MBA Essay. It took me a lot of iterations to finally find a balance in the backstory, the problem, the lack of resources, the innovation, the failure, and finally, a solution that combines process innovation with technology intervention.

I have noticed the process innovation narrative in the automobile and manufacturing industries. But if you think about it, the idea to automate a process with technology, or introduce technology as a means to improve efficiency are all conversations happening at the business or Technology architecture level. You might not be at that function or level of seniority to have these conversations,  but an awareness that you are solving a high-value problem is sufficient to demonstrate growth.

Capturing Curiosity in a Technology solutions narrative is extremely important. You have to think from the perspective of the stability of the system, the value of the solution from the client’s perspective,  the customers the client is serving, and even society if the solution has a wide reach.

For the essay on Scaffolding as a concept, I focussed on the scarcity of computers. The applicant found a clever way to overcome the problem without any devices, but even with the innovation, the learning engagement was low. Instead of computers, he found an alternative device to improve the learning experience.
